讲座主题/Title: The topological period-index problem
讲座摘要/Abstract:
Let PGLk = GLk(C)/CxIn be the complex projective linear group of degree k. For a topological space X of the homotopy type of a finite connected CW complex, any n-torsion class ɑ∈H3(X; Z) is a characteristic class of a principal PGLk bundle over X, for some k divisible by n. The topological period-index problem (TPIP) refers to the problem of finding the greatest common divisor of all such k.
The TPIP is an anolog of the (classical) period-index problem which concerns the Brauer group of a field K and the orders of the central simple algebras over K. In this talk we make an attempt to put the connection between TPIP and the period-index problem in perspective.
