Dr. Tao is a member of the National Ecological Environment Advisory Committee and the National Environmental and Health Advisory Committee. He is currently conducting research on high-resolution emission inventories for various pollutants on a global scale. His work also involves analyzing the spatial distribution of these pollutants, assessing their impact on population health, and simulating their effects on climate forcing. The pollutants under consideration include atmospheric particles, black carbon, and others. As either the first or corresponding author, Dr. Tao has published over 200 papers in peer-reviewed academic journals, which have been cited more than 30,000 times. His H-index is 91(Web of Science). In addition to his publications. He was awarded the title of National Model Professor in 2001. In January 2021, he received the ES&T/ES&TL Outstanding Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the field.
报告题目/Title:
Causes for Recent Trend of Air Pollution in China
讲座摘要/Abstract:
In the last decade, air quality in China has significantly improved. It is important to understand the drivers that led to this change. In this regard, we use several examples to highlight the effects of major factors. First and foremost, the switch to a different mix of residential energy sources, driven by socioeconomic development, has resulted in a substantial reduction in emissions from the residential sector. Recent government intervention has significantly enhanced the process of reducing residential emissions. For instance, the ban on beehive coke ovens exemplifies the effectiveness of legal means in pollution control. Lastly, changes in meteorological conditions may cause random variations in air pollution, which can be distinguished from the contributions of emissions. Overall, these factors have contributed to the improvement in air quality in China. Nevertheless, more efforts are needed to sustain this progress and further reduce air pollution levels.
