主讲人/Speaker:
Prof. Dao Xiang is the Dean of School of Physics and Astronomy at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). He obtained his Ph.D from Tsinghua University in 2008 and he held a Staff Scientist position at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory before joining SJTU in 2014 to lead the MeV ultrafast electron diffraction project. His research fields are accelerator physics, free-electron laser, and ultrafast electron diffraction. He received the US DOE Early Career Award, the Young Investigator Free-Electron Laser Prize, the Explorer Prize, and was elected Fellow of American Physical Society (APS).
讲座摘要/Abstract:
Ultrafast electron diffraction (UED) , where the dynamic process inside a sample is first excited by a laser pulse and then probed by an electron pulse, has been developed for tracking the structural dynamics at femtosecond time scale and Angstrom spatial scale. Recently, there is growing interest in using mega-electron-volt (MeV) high-energy electrons generated in particle accelerators to further advance the performance of UED facilities. In this talk, I will briefly discuss the history and latest development of MeV UED and also report on the status of a state-of-the-art MeV UED facility at Shanghai Jiao Tong University which has achieved 50 fs (FWHM) resolution. I will discuss our recent work in studies of ultrafast structural dynamics for quantum materials and gas phase molecules.
