主讲人/Speaker

Zhimin Liao obtained his undergraduate degree in 2002 from the Department of Physics at Sun Yat-sen University. In 2007, he completed his Ph.D. at the School of Physics, Peking University, and has been a faculty at PKU ever since. During the period of 2010-2011, he conducted research as a visiting scholar at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. In recent years, he has made significant research progress in the field of topological quantum transport properties and novel device effects. He has received prestigious honors such as the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2018) and the Young Changjiang Scholar by the Ministry of Education (2016).

讲座摘要/Abstract:

Quantum transport is an important method for revealing the properties of topological matters and laying the foundation for post-Moore's law devices. This report will mainly discuss the following two aspects:

1) In the Dirac semimetal Cd3As2, experimental observations of the negative magnetoresistance effect caused by the chiral anomaly of Weyl fermions, the quantum Hall effect originating from the topological surface states, the A-B effect modulated by Berry phases, spin-polarized transport induced by spin-momentum locking, the 4π-periodic supercurrent in Dirac semimetal-based Josephson junctions, the orbital interference effect of supercurrent from the two-dimensional Fermi arc topological surface states, and the supercurrent of one-dimensional topological edge states in high-order topological semimetals;

2) In WTe2, the application of electric current induces Berry curvature dipole moments, orbital magnetic moments, as well as third-order and second-order nonlinear Hall effects. In the heterostructure of WTe2/Fe3GeTe2, the application of current pulses enables the perpendicular magnetization switching without an external magnetic field, utilizing orbital transfer torques.
